Student Leader Applications
Steadfast with the mission of Rochester Christian University and the Center for Student Life, the purpose of Rochester Christian University’s Student Leadership Program is to engage students in the exploration of leadership theory and practice. Through meaningful leadership experiences, students will make a positive impact on the Rochester Christian University campus and community as well as gain knowledge and skills to launch them into their post-graduate pursuits.
Students participating in the Student Leadership Program embody the best of Rochester Christian University and gain valuable experiences in areas such as public relations and marketing, oral and written communication, team building and the management of others.
We seek students that demonstrate the desire to develop: excellent interpersonal communication skills, enthusiasm for the university, leadership abilities, positivity, sound judgment, and reliability. A student leader’s responsibility includes serving as an ambassador for the University. As ambassadors each student leader supports the university’s branding efforts by: being a positive representative of the college with everyone they meet, agreeing to share their experiences at Rochester Christian University with institutional constituents and participating in internal and external institutional marketing efforts and promotions.
Students interested in participating in the Student Leadership program are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements as well as the responsibilities and expectations for the desired position. Student leaders are selected through a rigorous application and interview process that is conducted from January through March.
Compensation for Student Leaders is determined by individual financial aid packages and institutional awards. The basic compensation is outlined in the specific position descriptions.
Student Leader Qualifications
- Be in good academic and judicial standing with Rochester Christian University
- Exhibit an active and growing Christian faith
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for the college, students, faculty, staff and co-curricular programming
- Possess an in-depth knowledge of the institution and its resources
- Communicates effectively both verbally and written; as well as interactively through various technologies
- Be willing to help students with personal concerns (including, but not limited to: housing, parking, social interactions, self-care, academic pressures, loneliness, etc.)
- Demonstrate sensitivity/interest in diversity/cultural differences; ability to effectively communicate with a variety of personalities
- Function effectively in a team environment
- Exhibit strong analysis and problem solving skills
- Have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities

Student Leadership Responsibilities
- Commit to the ongoing mentoring and leadership of students entrusted to your care.
- Assist and engage in new student move-in day (Aug. 24) and Welcome Week (beginning Aug. 24)
- Attend and participate in RU’s Student Leadership Get Together (April 4th)
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings as determined in August training.
- Arrive early to campus for scheduled Fall all-day training in August.
