RCU Homecoming to feature crosstown matchup with Oakland University

Homecoming 2024 festivities at Rochester Christian University will take place around basketball contests with the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies on Oct. 25-26.

The greater Rochester Hills community and RCU alumni are invited to tailgate with catered food before both games. Inductees will be entered into the RCU Athletics Hall of Fame during halftime of Friday’s game.

Men’s Basketball

For only the second time in school history, RCU men’s basketball will host NCAA Division 1 Oakland University on Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Garth Pleasant Arena. RCU is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

In the 2024 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, the Golden Grizzlies made a historic postseason run by making it to the second round as a 14th seed. Oakland’s March Madness success included an 80-76 victory over the third-seed Kentucky Wildcats.

Two seasons ago, the RCU Warriors hosted Oakland in front of a sellout crowd with the game finishing in a 66-64 victory for the Golden Grizzlies.

Dr. Klint Pleasant, RCU men’s head basketball coach, said, “These two basketball programs have had a great relationship for the past four decades, and it has become very important to the entire community. We were thrilled to watch OU’s success on the national stage, and we are certainly grateful to OU Coach Greg Kampe for doing this. I hope it’s a sellout crowd.”

Women’s Basketball

For the first time in program history, the RCU women’s basketball team will host the Golden Grizzlies on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. in Garth Pleasant Arena. This is the first matchup between the crosstown opponents since the 2018-19 season.

Jared Ocampo, RCU head women’s basketball coach, said, “This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to compete at a high level. It’s not every day you get to host a DI program, so we will embrace the opportunity to do so and have fun with it.”

Tickets

General admission tickets are $10 per person, and reserved chairback seating tickets are $15 per person. Tickets for both games are available at rcuwarriors.com/tickets. The games also will be broadcast on the Warriors’ YouTube channel, RCU Sports Network, with Warrior broadcaster Steven MacDonald.
