The 55th annual Partnership Dinner, which featured keynote speaker Sean Astin on April 11 at the Royal Park Hotel, brought together more than 600 donors, alumni and friends of the university to celebrate a commitment to higher education.

The evening raised over $162,000 for tuition assistance, the third largest amount in 20 years, with 42 sponsorships. Jeff Tungate, interim vice president of development, said many in attendance requested follow-up meetings to discuss ways of helping the university.  “We anticipate many more gifts in the weeks to come.”

Astin is best known for his roles in several iconic films, including The Goonies, Rudy and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Astin has appeared in more than 50 films throughout his career, along with over 100 acting credits across television, voice work and streaming projects. He was also recently elected president of the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

“I was inspired by every single person I met. Thank you so much for the opportunity and the joy and beauty of the evening!” Astin said.

Tungate introduced longtime Rochester resident Marilyn Dipboye for her generous estate planning gift to RCU. Her gift is the largest one-time gift in the 67-year history of the university!

Tungate said, “This meaningful evening beautifully reflected the power of faith, family and higher education. RCU’s 55th Partnership Dinner united community leaders, generous donors and alumni from across the nation in support of the university’s mission — cultivating faithful hearts and providing vital tuition assistance for students.”

Since 1972, the Partnership Dinner has raised funds for student scholarships and is the institution’s largest annual fundraiser.
