Rochester Christian University
Land Acknowledgment
Our beloved university resides on land that originally belonged to four Indigenous peoples – the Sauk, the Mississauga, the Potawatomi, and the Wyandots. We would like to acknowledge the following people whose land we are on today – the Sauk, the Mississauga, the Potawatomi, and the Wyandots. We would like to acknowledge their ancestors who lived here and were forced out after Pontiac’s War, and whose removal and isolation was furthered by the signing of the Treaty of Detroit in 1807.
As the Rochester Christian University community, we commit to building our understanding of our current community of Indigenous People and engaging with them as an advocate, and to hopefully be seen by Indigenous people as an ally.
